The enforcement of the Act is the responsibility of the Department of Labor anc the standards are to be established by a newly formed agency under H.E.K. known as the National Institute of Occupational Safety. The director of this agency is a surgeon who is familiar with both sides of the factors involved. For the present, the agency is following the standards in use but within two years, these will be revised. However, to aid them in modifying existing standards or establishing new ones, they are approaching the various industries to appoint reoresentatives to serve voluntarily on some of the committees. Such service is to the advantage of an industry in that the Government will be aware of the existing oroblems within an industry and the re sultant standards such that can be met. By 1976, there will be apDroximately 4,000 inspectors in the field and every plant, within an industry, will have been insoeciec. W. Reitze answered, in great detail with particular examples, the auestions raised by the members. He was roundly applauded for a most timely and extremely interesting subject and the appreciation of the membership was expressed by the Chairman. As all of the members were interested in securing copies of the three publica tions referred to by Mr. Reitze, the institute Office was directed to release a cuestionnaire to the membership reouesting the number of copies of each publication reauired. The bulk order would then be forwarded and upon receipt, the number of cocies ordered by each member would be forwarded. *#**** No further business was brought to the attention of the meeting.
