So plant production was made and the color became inactive due to the war. In May 1945, production was resumed in both semi-works and plant. This report covers the semi-works and plant manufacture from May 1945 until the process was turned over to the plant in March 1946. 1. A new standard for RT-525-D has been set up and designated SB-48404 (lot 8457). 2. A new formula, K-2285, of double the size of the preceding K-1255, has been written and accepted. 3. The plant assumed supervision of the color in March, 1946. 4. A high percentage of OK Straight should be attained. 5. Production on the K-2285 formula has been discontinued in favor of the more economical direct laking formula now in process of development. EXPERIMENTAL DETAILSi Production was begun in May, 1945, with two semi-works batches to fill small orders. Both were fairly close to standard, and OK in bleed. All further production was made in the plant. Six 323 pound batches and eleven 646 pound batches were made in the plant. The large size batches were exactly double the small size in all respects, and differed only in the vats used. No variable study was made. Most of the 323 pound batches were poor in bleed due to contamination. When this was eliminated the bleed became acceptable. Equal portions of the first two of the 646 pound batches were mixed and set up as standard. Eight of the nine following batches were OK Straight against the old standard. The new formula, K-2285, was set up in March, 1946, with no change from the preceding formula, K-1255, except doubling the batch size, and adjusting the "as is" yield for the moisture content of the new standard.
