Texas City Dear Judy: Enclosed are summaries of the readings by one of the consultants on the recently submitted asbestos workers from Texas City. I recently spoke with Dora Sendejas about several of these employees. There were several questions that came up at the time of that conversation. One was con cerning H. E. Baker and, in his case, the most recent chest X-ray had not been read, but was misplaced in the group. This has subsequently been read, and he would be classified as one of those with suspicious changes. There are several others as can be seen from the enclosed work sheet. In addition there are several other individuals whose most recent X-rays were quite some time ago, including one going back to 1951. What we really need is a determination of their current status and the date of their termination of employment if this is available. In some cases it may be necessary to get more up-to-date X-rays even on the separated employees In addition to the summary sheet, I am enclosing a copy of each of the indi vidual readings by one of our St. Louis consultants. We are in the process of determining whether or not we want each of these also read by another con sultant. If you have any questions about these, let me know, and I would appreciate your getting information for me regarding any clinical disease that may have been mentioned in their medical record. Examination of the chest demonstrate a normal heart mediastinum. The left chest is well within the range of normal. There is significant difference in the opacity with the right apex more dense than the left. There is a fluffy density in the right apex, which seems to have one, and possibly more, cystic structures within it. This was not present on the prior examination of 5-22-63. There is no evidence to suggest pleural involvement. Without a lateral view to help establish its exact location, the possibility of apical parenchymal disease cannot be excluded. Considerations include acute pneumonia and tuberculosis. Other considerations include artifact, since this density cannot definitely be localized on one view. IMPRESSION: Increased density in the right apex with suspicious lucencies within it, compatible with the possibility of acute pneumonia, tuberculosis, and conceivably artifacts.
