Hawthorne RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM 8/27/76 JPH-81-76 PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT CEL-628 The attached respiratory protection program (Draft No. 4) is submitted for Director review. The following comments are pertinent to a successful program: 1. The program meets OSHA Standard 1910, 134, Par (b) - "Requirements for a Minimal Acceptable Respiratory protection Program. " 2. All existing respirators must be inspected to determine if these devices meet OSKA/NIOSH approval standards. 3. One source (the Safety Department) is responsible for procurement and issuance of respiratory protective equipment. 4. A training program must be established which should include a smoke test. 5. Work habits including proper care of respiratory equipment will be affected. 6. In view of the fact that there are many different types of respiratory protective devices on the market and the need to maintain canisters, face masks, respirators etc. in stock to meet facility requirements plus many other safety related stock items, we should consider reestablishing the safety warehouse concept. 7. Maintenance of an effective program will require diligent surveillance on the part of safety personnel and, in addition, stringent control measures by line managers. JFH/sac Attachment cc: R. D.
