Dr. Kolbye stated the proposed guidelines for PCBs were based on toxicity studies with rats and dogs (ours?) and the available data from the accidental exposure of humans to PCBs in Japan. I recall a statement to the effect that the acute toxic exposure for humans is on the order of several grams/day. Dr. Kolbye indicated the FDA feels a temporary dietary intake of 150-300 micrograms/day would not be harmful to humans. The toxicity data, along with an analysis of the various routes by which PCBs get into the human diet, was used in setting the guidelines for the various foods. C(///(_ W. M.
