2 INDOOR and OUTDOOR FINISH
2.1
The finish for LO-TEMP and DUAL-TEMP applications, both indoors and outdoors, shall consist of two coats of P.V.A. mastic, reinforced with glass mesh, or 2 coats of Lo-Temp vapor barrier mastic, reinforced with glass mesh.
2.2 The first coat of mastic (see note) shall be applied about 1/8" thick, (wet thickness).
NOTE: If the first coat of mastic is applied by hand a heavy rubber glove must be worn to protect against injury from band seals, insul-pins and wire twists.
2.3
Glass mesh shall be imbedded in the mastic while the mastic is still soft. A.considerably larger area can be covered with vapor barrier mastic than can be with P.V.A. mastic before imbedding the glass mesh.
2.4
The mesh shall not be stretched tightly around the equip ment or ductwork but shall be applied in a neat and unwrinkled manner.
2.5
The mastic that extrudes through the mesh shall be spread over the mesh with the hand (recommended), trowel or a dry brush. (See note) The first coat of mastic shall not be troweled to a smooth finish.
NOTE:
P.V.A. mas-tics are water soluble and using a wet brush will dissolve the mastic and destroy its ability to prevent the penetration of moisture. The dry brush will leave the surface more conduc tive to good adhesion of the second coat of mastic.
2.6 The second coat of lo-temp vapor barrier mastic shall be applied immediately after the glass mesh has been imbedded in the first coat. It shall be applied just thick.enough to conceal the glass mesh. Lo-temp vapor barrier mastics are solvent type mastic and if applied too thick the solvent is trapped and the mastic will not become tough and reistive to abuse as desired. Hand application is recommended for both coats of lo-temp vapor barrier mastics.
