DATE SUBJECT
May 10, 1991 Safety Showers
The Safety and Health Department is in the process of updating th information concerning safety showers throughout the plant. A survey of the safety showers has been performed with several points identified as needing attention. These points are:
1. Most of the showers are not identified by white and orange diagonal strips.
2. Showers have been taken out of service without informing the Safety Department or having appropriate signs posted.
3. There is no consistent numbering system in use. 4. Coverall storage areas are not properly maintained causing
damage to coveralls.
it is the duty of the owners to inspect the safety showers weekly, make the appropriate corrections, maintain a log and inform the Safety Department when showers are taken out of service either temporarily or permanently.
In order to assist in resolving these issues:
1. The Carpenter Shop has agreed to provide white and orange diagonal stripes on an as-needed basis.
2. The numbering system must be made uniform. The following system will be used:
A. Numbers found in the Safety and Health Department Identification Drawing (Plot Plan) will be used (see attached).
B. Each department is identified by a number or combination of number and letter followed by a dash, as shown in Table 1.
C. The number immediately following the dash will identify the shower number.
A combination of B and C above will form the Safety Shower Code to be used throughout the plant.
For example, the Safety Shower Code 2-20 will identify the shower in Caustic Area "C" (2, as shown on the Plot Plan), and the number 20 will identify safety shower number twenty. The Safety Shower Code 5A-10 will identify the shower in the VCM-II area, specifically in the "VC" sphere storage area (5A, as shower on the Plot Plan), and the number 10 will identify safety shower number ten. Following is a list of areas with identification codes.
