Pruitt Hello, I hope this note finds you well. My name is Kush Desai and I'm a fact check reporter with The Daily Caller News Foundation. I'm currently working on an article fact checking a claim made by Administrator Pruitt on Fox Business earlier today. At one during his interview with Neil Cavuto, Administrator Pruitt claimed, "we've reduced our C02 footprint by over 18%, almost 20%, from 2000 to 2014." EPA data on annual C02 emissions I was able to find (link) indicates that C02 emissions in 2000 were around 5992.4 million metric tons, a figure that drops to 5556 in 2000. This is a 7% drop; it doesn't tie up with what Administrator Pruitt said in his interview. His figure and the EPA data both, however, indicate significant C02 emissions declines since 2000 --can you clarify what specific data source he was looking at for this claim? Was he perhaps referencing a different statistic? Happy to chat at anytime on the phone as well i Ex. 6 ]) and also happy to discuss further on any medium off the record or on background as well.
