Clark September 22, 1980 PERCENT FILLER - GLASS MAT BASED SHINGLES For several months the average percent filler of glass mat based shingles generally has been under the 50% established minimum at FK. The standard precent filler is 55%. This was pointed out in a memo to FK dated 7/21/80. It is absolutely necessary to have this filler content in order to pass the U/L Class A fire tests. I feel that we should run to the standard 55% to insure that our material will pass. Low percent filler was considered one of the contributing factors in the failure of the glass mat based Architect 70 to pass the D/L Class A fire tests.
