8. The Installation of a roller conveyor system at Winchester is complete - tne first system installed to handle all regular runs of blocks and production material. It should set the pattern for Detroit. Such a system will reduce handling, trucking, and space requirements, and will force the completion of a job once started. 9. A small but important addition to our double--end automatic DO-ALL saws in the form of a hydraulic operated disappearing saw "back up8 block has greatly reduced scrap from broken corners on rolled strip material. 10. Further experimental work on the basic design and principles of these machines will continue throughout 1949. 3. Engineering work has begun on new methods of cut-off control which we hope will make all automatic rolling machines successful at strip production as well as roll production. This will reduce material now rolled on the hand rolling machines to a minimum. 4. A new Compounding Department layout for Detroit incorporating new principles of handling, batching, and processing is being developed by the Division Engineering and Construction and Maintenance Departments.
