This man had absolutely no lead indications, and his stlple- cell count showed "2" over a period of time, in fact, three days before he died, his stiple-cell count was still 2. t; This man worked for us over a year, and about three weeks before he died, he went home sick. He came back to work after being absent a couple of weeks, and worked five days. He was taken sick in the plant with such severe cramps that he wouldn't let us move him for several hours. The following day, our doctor examined him, and thought he had a duodenal ulcer, and recommended that he go to the hospital. However, his attending colored physi cian said he thought Andy would be all right. However, the next day they took him to the hospital, peritonitis had set in, and he died. We examine our men every two weeks, at which time we take a stiple-cell count. At no time did this man show the effects of lead am sending you the coroner's verdict to see whether you can find any inconsistencies. The chemist is Dr. McNally, who, like most public servants, is not adversed to ^publicity. There are no complications in this case that will involve our company, however, if there are discrepancies that you could point'out, I would 1 ike to submit them to the insurance company, or to any others that you might suggest. Coroner of Cook County' Pathaiogical Raaort The undersigned has this date 12/15/44 performed an autopsy on the dead body of Andrew Golden fit Co o k County Morgue, deceased: Age 50, Race - colored. Sex - Male, Color of eyes - brown. Hair black-gray. Weight - 160, Length - 5* 3", Date of death 12/14/44. There are no external marks of violence. Autopsy re vealed: Local peritonitis right lower quadrant with tabes mesenteric* and obstruction of the jejunum with fibrous bands; retro cecal append with lip adherent to the Jejunum; fibrous obliteration of the appendix; eccentric hypertrophy of the lower myocardium; hyper trophy of the right myocardium; dilation of the ascending pulmonary artery; ancient f i'oro-plastic thickening of the mitral and tricuspid valve with deformity of the posterior mitral valve calcific deposits within the aortic cusps; atheromatosis of the aortic and coronary arteries; anatomic patency of the foramen ovale; healed right opical tuberculosis "atrophic emplysema of both lungs and bilateral cysts kidneys. Liver, kidney, bone and urine submitted to chemist for lead. Toxicological report #2602: A chemical examination of the liver shows the presence of 2.0 milligrams of lead per 100 grams of tissue; the kidneys 0.50 milligrams of lead per 100 grams of tissue; the urine contained 0.065 milligrams of lead per liter. The sternum contained 0.084 milligrams of lead per 100 grams of tissue. The results of this examination show an abnormal amount of lead in the liver and kidneys while the urine shows a high normal lead content. v In my opinion death of Andrew Golden was the result of peritonitis with obstruction of the Jejunum associated with chronic lead poisoning. , | S. Said poison received during the course of 16 month's employment at the John R. MacGregor Lead Co. located at 4520 W. 15th Street.
