New Business New members of the 1980 B-Term Hourly Safety Committee were announced following their election by their peers. They are: A. E. Mofley, Vivian Hargrove, Jessie Butler, and Austin Gates. The Hourly Safety Committee is looking for ward to their contributions. Retiring members of the 1980 A-Term Committee are 0. C. Patterson, chairman, J. R. Bessire, Greg Bryan, and Andrew Caine. These members have contributed generously in an unselfish manner to help make our plant a safer work place. Their contributions are acknowledged and appreciated. Fork Lift Truck Lights and Backup Alarms There is inconsistent use of fork lift truck lights and backup alarms in the plant. The Hourly Safety Committee recommends that these vehicles be made consistent with lights and alarms. Use of Different Colored Car Seals for Safety Device Lockout and Painted Safety Valves and Rupture Disc Flanges This item was taken for study by the Committee. made at the next meeting. Specific assignments will be Storage Tank Identification Plant procedures specify that functional item numbers be painted on all equip ment. The PMSB has requested a study be made regarding possible painting of vessel contents on raw material and final product liquid storage tanks used by both operators and pumper gaugers. This will be discussed more fully at the next meeting. SC 13044 LAM014260 John Andrews, et al -2- June 26, 1980 Hard Hat Attached Safety Goggle Holders There have been isolated instances of hard hats being dislodged and falling off, with the result that safety goggles were also pulled from the face. More dis cussion is needed on this item. Old Business Falling Incandescent Light Vapor Barriers Jack McCurley, who was requested to investigate this problem on March 7 and make a recommendation to the committee, is not yet ready to make his recommendation. Speed Bumps 0. C. Patterson discussed this with Fred Herzog. Fred discouraged these because of heady trucks with sometimes fragile loads entering the plant. Additional signs have been erected at the plant entrance, and flashing caustion lights with "plant entrance" signs are being sought from the State Highway Department. Guard Rail by Guard Station at Front Gate 0. C. Patterson reported that the concept has been approved and the money is being requested. Department 48/56 D1 and D2 Column Manway Access Joe Lonsford, with L. Hertenberger and the contact supervisor, looked at the problem. They decided against steps as this would offer no solution. The super visor was reported to be readily agreeable to any reasonable solution. The situation is complicated by a very slick wax-like material. Joe will pursue a solution. Unchained Cylinders in Flatbed Trucks 0. C. Patterson has been unable to contact the supervisor, but it was reported that one truck was seen with a new webbed holddown belt. There is another problem with lift gates on flatbed trucks used to transport cylinders. These items will be pursued for positive confirmation. Drum Congestion at TBA Arnold Glass reported that there was an outstanding order for extension of the loading platform. Welding Restriction in Research Maintenance Shop when the Queeny is Docked Joe Lonsford will continue to pursue this item. Arnold Glass had to respond, and Max Cruse had left earlier to fulfill a short commitment. We apologize for this.
