David Mica Jr, CEO of Volunteer Florida said, "Sam is extremely deserving of the Champion of Service Award. As a direct result of his mentorship, local students are succeeding in school, developing valuable life skills and becoming well-rounded individuals - ensuring a bright future for both Tallahassee and the State of Florida."
About the Champion of Service Recipient:
Since his retirement, Sam Rogers has contributed countless hours to several deserving projects and causes throughout Tallahassee. In 1999, Sam was instrumental in establishing a partnership between his church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and Kate Sullivan Elementary School, encouraging the congregation to serve as mentors to students. For the last 19 years, Sam has mentored two firstgrade students every year. He helps them develop their reading skills and comprehension and engages them in fun activities that allow them to learn about the arts, different cultures, etc.
