Elizabeth Rickey, a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee, is sharing a Cavallo Prize with Stetson Kennedy, vho infiltrated the Klan in the 1940s. Rickey called on her party to censure David Duke, a former Klan Leader, who holds a seat in the state Legislature as a Republican. 3oth Kennedy, from Jacksonville, Fla., and Rickey were subjected to threats because of their opposition to the Klan, the Cavallo foundation said in a statement. The foundation also gave prizes to people who objected to unsafe or improper conditions where they worked. Jim and Rikki Pomerenke of Yakima, Wash., were honored for their .ole in developing a federal law regulating the safe transportation )f food. The two are long-haul truckers who were fired because they rould not haul chemicals such as formaldehyde in their truck, which ilso was used to carry food, the foundation said. Linda Porter received a prize for her work to expose her rompany's use of paint that contained toxic substances, such as isbestos, the foundation said. Porter was a painter for Brown and toot at the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant near Fort Worth, Texas, ind now suffers from health problems attributed to industrial Inhalation.
