4a3 SECURING HEAD INSULATION
4A3.1 Insulation, on dished heads, having a diameter of 6' or less
shall be secured with 3/8" wide bands, that over 6* diameter with 3/4" wide bands.
4A3.2 If dished heads, of horizontal vessels, have a diameter of 48" or less the insulation on them shall be secured to the end bands that secured the shell insulation. (See figure 11A)
4A3.3
The head bands shall be secured to the shell band on not more than 4" centers and stretched.radially to a floating ring (see note) positioned in the center pf the head as shown in figure 11B.
NOTE: A floating ring is made by bending;?A 3/8" rod into
about an 8" diameter ring and welding the ends
together. It shall not be anchored but allowed to
move in the direction of the pull equalizing the
tension on the opposing band. The,ring can be kept
in the center of head by using 2 banding machines,
one on each 'side of the ring, pulling against each
other.
