Sodium metanilate, sodium salt; as currently produced for the manufacture of sodium diethyl metanilate * is isolated from solution on a dram dryer at the naphthalene Sulfonating House ,, The product is further pan dried at the Azo pan dryers to reduce its moisture content to traces.
Preliminary spray drying- tests in the 2-foot Azo spray dryer showed that this product can be spray dried economically with satisfactory quality. The purpose of this test is to spray dry sufficient product is the 3"foot spray dryer for test in the manufacture of sodium diethyl metanilate.

1. Start with the following conditions:

2. Dry slurry under the above conditions for about one hour and adjust drying conditions if required.
3. Follow instructions described in Exhibit B-2, B~3 * B~4 and B-5 for the establishment of optimum conditions*, determination of drying rates* product testing and safety precautions as outlined in CUWoF.SuS.. Baport Ho. 555"?.
The initial conditions were established by preliminary spray drying tests in the experimental 2-foot spray dryer at Aso.
Tests at Aso Laboratory have shown that spray dried sodium
metanilate is neither explosive nor flammable under "usual conditions
