We manufacture all the cases of Joint System, Patching Plaster and Spackling Compound for all the other plants at Acme. We would like to point out the percent shipped into our shipping area versus all the other shipping areas. We will also include in this #1 Joint System, 25# Patching Plaster and 25# Spackling Compound.
This is not an attempt to discontinue the manufacturing of a product at this plant, as we would still produce to ship into our own shipping area, but to suggest a way to save money on freight and have a closer source and faster delivery for the predominant users.
There would only be the need of a sewing machine to sew the #1 Joint System bags after the tape is inserted in the bag. With the nearness of installation of automatic packers this would make it even more practical at some plant using the larger quantity. Automatic baggers as we are installing cannot pick up a bag containing a roll of tape, so one part will be done by hand. The case goods would require a little more machinery to produce with, but this would be offset by a savings in freight. We have shipped 333,883 lbs. of the materials mentioned above in the 8 months of this year at a cost of $3,091.00. Project this out to 12 months and you have a freight cost of $4,635.00.
The 25# Patching and Spackling could possibly be produced by Akron, who receives 100 percent of our production.
The following statistics will further explain our concern.

The percent shipped from Acme includes all G.P. Distributions in this shipping area |plus the plant at Marietta, Sigurd and Lovell.
We might point out with a few additional raw materials, Cnicago can make Laminating Compound. Also, we are using Gypsum in our #1 Jt. System packages except to Big Horn and Johns-Manville.
