BOX ISO PLAQUE MINE, LOUISIANA 70704-01 SO B04 3B9-SOOO ANNUAL NOISE SURVEY The annual noise survey was conducted at the Bayou Teche Promix Plant on September 29, 1982. The measurements were made using a Bruel and Kjaer, Type 2219 Sound Level Meter. The A-welghted scale was used with the meter on the slow response setting. The sound level readings obtained were recorded on a diagram of the plant layout and a copy is attached for your reference. The acceptable exposure level for noise is 85 dB(A) averaged over an eight-hour period. Employees exposed to sound levels in excess of this amount must wear approved hearing protection to reduce their exposure to an acceptable level. In addition, the Louisiana Division noise standard requires caution signs to be posted around the periphery of all areas with noise levels above 90 dB(A). The signs must Include the following: WARNING NOISE AREA MAY CAUSE HEARING LOSS USE PROPER EAR PROTECTION The signs must meet the OSHA regulations for "Caution" signs: Black letters on a yellow background. The yellow sign blanks can be obtained from the Division Stock Department. Several areas were much lower In noise level than during the previous survey. Specifically, these are the area near the rerun pump in front of the tank area, the area around the heaters for the hot oil system and the air compressor building where a very loud heat exchanger had been removed.
