The ILSI Research Foundation is the Panel Administrator for the Fluorotelomers-Based Product Biodegradation Testing Supplemental Environmental Project ("Biodegradation SEP" or "the SEP") undertaken by E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company ("DuPont") in connection with the settlement of an enforcement action brought by the United States Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA") against DuPont under the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
The Biodegradation SEP calls for posting of the attached announcement on EPA's Administrative Record (AR) 226 to inform the public that the ILSI Research Foundation is receiving nominations for the Peer Consultation Panel. I would appreciate it if you could post the attached announcement on AR 226 as soon as possible. ILSI Research Foundation Seeks Peer Consultation Panel Members
The ILSI Research Foundation is currently seeking nominations for members o f a Peer Consultation Panel to evaluate data and make recommendations under the Fluorotelomer-Based Product Biodegradation Testing Supplemental Environmental Project (Biodegradation SEP) which E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company (DuPont) has agreed to perform pursuant to the Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) entered into between DuPont and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The ILSI Research Foundation has been selected as Panel Administrator for this Project. The Panel will be charged with review and evaluation of data from analytical characterization and biodegradation studies and will provide input to EPA on an advisory basis. It is expected that the Panel will have three two-day meetings and several conference calls beginning in 2010, and will complete its work by October 2011.
Scientists with expertise in biodegradation testing, environmental fate o f polymers, laboratory analysis and characterization o f polymers, and fluorotelomer/fluoropolymer chemistry are sought as potential Panel members, as well as those with experience evaluating data from semi continuous activated sludge (SCAS) and related studies. A detailed curriculum vitae and completed Conflicts o f Interest Questionnaire must be submitted to SEP Panel@ilsi.org by October 26, 2009 for each nominated Panel member. Self-nominations by qualified scientists are being accepted. The Panel Administrator will consider all nominations in developing a list o f candidates for the Panel. To be considered for the qualified candidate list, scientists must have an advanced degree in an appropriate scientific discipline, recognized expertise in one o f the above areas, and relevant publications in the peer reviewed literature. Public comment on the candidate list, once available, will be sought through EPA/OPPT Administrative Record 226.
