LCSI mentioned that there is an RMP Industry Group (technical) in Madison county whose members are in various stages of planning
Concern expressed about how to "get the word out" now to other industries with out alerting the media. Discussion about how media might pick up on preparation with other groups as a negative and that October was "sweeps" month.
Need to focus on recruiting "non-chemical" industries
A-B will identify Tier II list companies on the West side of the river
Solutia will get Fire department contacts
AB has an internal communications plan. RMP roll-out initiating now with communications to employees via a video in 4th quarter. First quarter of 99' will include education of elected officials. Solutia WGK mentioned a similar roll-out.
Discussion about media personnel involved in LEPCs. expressed as noted above.
Concerns again
Need to have LEPC's lead future roll-out discussions. already agreed but will need strong support
Some have
John Henshaw is President of Safety Council of Greater St. Louis. John explained that the organization is focused on community and personal safety. Organization has small staff, low budget, and is a 501c(3) organization.
This initiative will need to hire a communications expert; a consultant. Cost could be under $10,000 per industry or group. Concept is that a donation would be made to the Safety Council and the Council would pay consultant expenses.
Discussed STL City LEPC meeting on the 10th.
Next meeting is 11/17/98 from 8:00-10:30 a.m. at Solutia W.G. Krummrich plant.
