First of oil, surprising ss it soy sound, there has been no engineering data publicly available on how good is a lead-calked joint. Research to develop this information has now been successfully concluded at Purdue University under the sponsorship of I.L.Z.R.O. and the report is being prepared. If not available sooner it will definitely be presented at the Annual Meeting in St. Louis, .April 21*22, 1964. I am sure that widespread dissemination of these data, which we plan, will help offset some of the propaganda of the rubber or neoprene joints now being promoted widely. I should point out that part of this promotion effort ^e the engineering data being offered in their behalf. Research also has underway a project to find out how good the rubber or neoprene joints are under service conditions with the conventional leadcalked joint as a control. It is ay own personal opinion that this project may turn up acme interesting disadvantages of such joints and I hope it is just not wishful thinking.
