Basically, Proposition 65 prohibits any discharge of listed carcinogens, or reproductive toxins and will require labeling on products containing the listed carcinogens. The specific labeling requirements are not clear at this point. The initial list promulgated by the Governor contained 29 chemicals, including several that Vista manufactures or has in our products. The attached describes a recent court action requiring the addition of 200 more chemicals to the list. Several more chemicals potentially impacting Vista products were added. Health and Industrial Hygiene United States Steel Corporation Mail Station CM-06 Fairless Hills, PA 19030 RE: Review of Vista Muriatic Acid MSDS Dear Mr. Jones: I have reviewed your comments on Vista's MSDS for Muriatic Acid. You noted what you believe to be two deficiencies in the MSDS (see attached). Vista believes the MSDS to be sufficient and no changes necessary. This is based on the following. You noted no information was available on the medical conditions- aggravated by HCL. Based on a review of the medical information on HCL there are no specific medical conditions aggravated by exposure to HCL. Any chronic respiratory problem may be aggravated with significant exposure based on the irritant properties of HCL. Listing those conditions would not significantly add to the communication of HCL hazards. Regarding your comment on the primary route of exposure. Due to HCL's liquid state and general volatility all routes of exposure are possible and therefore, are discussed in Section 5 of the MSDS under the Nature of Hazard Section.
