Schenke In answer to your request, the reasoning behind the recommendation to install double mechanical seals on the Nash vacuum pumps and compressors at Flemington rather than the single Crain 9's in service at Pasadena is as follows. On June 2nd, 1976, I contacted Mr. William L. Lorring, Asst. Dist. Sales Manager of Nash Engineering. He stated that Nash is supplying all new equip ment in VCM service with (Durametallic) double mechanical seals. The use of Crain 9 single mechanical seals, as installed in Pasadena, was the specified seal prior to EPA regulations. In fact, Nash has been recommending replace ment of the existing Crain 9 single mechanical with double mechanical seals. The above mentioned recommendations have been established through discussions with EPA personnel in order to comply with the EPA regulations governing the handling of VCM.
