In addition, for the past dozen years Du Pont research has been working with automotive and oil industry research to make better motoring possible Just a few drops of TEL per gallon reduce the "knocking" tendency of gasoline. Thus the additive helps the refiner make a high octane fuel that can be sold to motorists at a reasonable price - in spite of the fact that Federal and state taxes make up about 40 per cent of the price paid at the pump.
