Williams (2) As we discussed on November 7, 1969 regarding the subject LOP, a few important points should be considered in the evaluation of Aztec t-butyl peroxy pivalate in 225 resin. 1. The current 62-pound supply should not be used in the LOP evaluation since it assayed at 65.58% as opposed to the specification requirement of 74.076.0%. Regarding this 62-pound supply, we were surprised that Aztec would deliver the initiator packed in dry ice since it is known that it will lose active oxygen under these conditions. 2. Analytical Control has yet to obtain an in specification assay on samples of Aztec initiator " that you have submitted. On September 19, 1969, we analyzed an Aztec sample from Flemington and found 52.35% t-butyl peroxy pivalate. While both - - of these low assays may be explained by improper sample storage and/or handling, it does point to a need to perform a storage stability study on the Aztec initiator compared to Lucidol's Lupersol 11 prior to adding it to the approved raw material * listing.
