PLAINTIFF'S EXHIBIT GF-1580 MONTHLY HIGHLIGHT REPORT - APRIL 1969 RESEARCH t DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS DIVISION SECRET - COMPANY CO I. INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS (South Bound Brook) A. Pelts t Papers 1. Gaskets Additional den3ification tests were performed on the asbestos latex gasketing (GN-704) at the Vails Gate laboratory. The calender unit used confirmed the need for large diameter rolls. A specification for a laboratory calender has been prepared and a quotation will be requested from the Parrell Corp. 2. Asbestos Millboard - Lehr Discs Samples of special millboard developed and submitted to PPG for evaluation as discs for conveyor rolls in glass manufacturing have been approved. Another type for very high temperature service is also desired by PPG and a study is underway to pro vide the required formulation. 3. Asbestos Paper - Marlny Laboratory work has been completed on development of a latexbound asbestor paper for use as cooling tower fill. The paper must be strong, stiff and highly water absorbent. It is sub sequently saturated with a phenolic resin and honeyconbed by the customer. A test run at Erie is now planned. 4. Asbestos Flooring Felt (Brie) Despite continuing laboratory effort at South Bound Brook and Erie, no process procedure has been found to achieve satis factory tensile strength and freeness properties with the TCD carboxylated 5BR latices. TCD RtD personnel are scheduled to visit South Bound Brook to review the program. B. Insulation 1. A slight reduction of the lime - silica ratio has been made in the standard "inhibited" Calsilite formulation and improved strength characteristics are being realized. 2. Reducing Dusting Tendency The laboratory program to develop a coating to reduce the dusting tendency of Calsilite is continuing. This would be ad vantageous from a handling standpoint. Work done to date in dicates that only organic coatings give the desired result but none has been found that does not discolor and char excessively when subjected to high temperature. *' 09?g MICH08342
