H on. John Tower United Spates Senate 'Jashington, D.C. 20510
Dear --r. Tower:
I would like to get your opinion on a matter that could possibly affect my business in the future. As the spiraling inflation leaps ahead ani costs seem to increase almost daily, I would like to know the projected outcome of the recent attacks on asbestos.
I am in the business of making wane, and recently one of the materials that I use has come under inve^tigation by the alarmist environmental i.sts. 1 have reference to asbestos filter aids. I was talking with one of my suppliers recerbly (F-M Co. .Houston) and I w~s told that even though no asbestos residues have ever been found in the r products, the Texas breweries lv-ve ceased to use asbestos filter media for fear of having several million bottles of beer in inventory when an edict might be issued condemnin' anl products made using asbestos filters. 1 wou^d "ike to know what research is being done on this subject and what the projected outcome Is. Since I have quite a bit o'1 t;'is mat eria1 on hand and onticioate buying more, I need to know if I will be purchasing something that will be illegal to u---e.
Nearly a1! companies involved with materials of this nature
which must be fi1 tered use, as final filtration, filters which
remove organisms or compounds even sma1ler than .65 Micron.
My vine is filtered, in final filtration, with a membrane type
(non-asbestos) with maximum oore size of .65 Micron. This
fi'ter cartridge is make by the M I "1ipore Conoany of New York.
How any fiber or particle of asbestos could pass thro-gh that--
is beyond me. However, having been the victim of irrational
peon1e before, 1 vou'd 1ike to avoid and prevent any loss
of time or money if at all possible.
.
I vili gre'-f'y appreciate your help and consideration.
Please advice as bon as possible.
