DATE OF SURVEY January 15, 1980 SUMMARY Although asbestos exposures to employees were higher than normal, the use of approved respirators and protective clothing as well as proper stripping and disposal procedures protected the workers from a potentially hazardous situation. DISCUSSION Construction insulators are in the process of stripping several thousand feet of old asbestos type insulation from the steam boilers at the #1 Powerhouse, Location 512. The job will be in progress for the next two years and will involve many crafts before completion. Bags of stripped insulation should be handled carefully, not dropped from one level to another. 2. Cleanup should be thorough and inspected by Construction supervisor for completeness. Complaints can be easily generated by powerhouse employees or other workers.in the area. 3. Protective clothing should be discarded in plastic bags along with the insulation.
