Inter Office Personnel end Organization Staff April 27, 1981 Mr. Paul E. Toth, Manager Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology Department Subject: Ambient Air Asbestos Monitoring Per your agreement vith Manufacturing Staff ve conducted ambient air asbestos monitoring at the Cleveland Engine Plants (February 5, 1981) and at Sheldon Road (March 6, 1981). It was further agreed that other plants reporting forms of as bestos use would be monitored. As can be seen from the attached data sheets no significant levels were found at either plant. Since the data confirms the studies I did when the asbestos standard was initially promulgated and as the Plant Engineering Bulletin detailing the proper handling of asbestos in mainte nance operations is still in effect ve believe that further monitoring of plants using minor amounts of asbestos in maintenance operations is unwarranted. t Please advise us of your decision in this matter at your earliest convenience. dt Attachmen ts H.
