What is REACH, what is a REACH restriction?
REACH Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
is the European Union regulation dating from 18 December 2006, addressing

REACH Restriction
g
REACH restrictions limit, ban or set conditions on the manufacture, placing
on the market (including imports) or use of a substance or group of
substances.
Restrictions are a measure for protecting human health and/or the environment from risks posed by chemicals on their own, in mixtures or in articles.

Fluoropolymers should be
exempted from any regulatory action underthe REACH redtriction 7)
+ Fluoropolymers can be categorized as PFAS based on their molecular structure. However, their environmental and toxicological profiles are distinctly different to the majorityofother PFAS;
+ Fluoropolymers that meet the OECD Polymer of Low
Concern (PLC) criteria are non-toxic, not bioavailable,
non-water soluble and non-mobile molecules and are deemed as such to have no significant environmental and human health impacts; + Fluoropolymer stability translates to unique, durable, lasting performance in many uses and applications. Additionally, the unique durability of fluoropolymers makes them ideal materials that enable innovation.

Our advice to you 1/3
* KPLR ASTICS
+ Take your time to read the proposal, note where your products are mentioned and what regulatory action is
proposed (derogation, no-derogation?):
+ Look especially at the tableon pages 4-8 which s the proposed restriction;
* You can also refer to Table 9 (starting on page 115) which presents a summary of proposed derogations;
* Do you see statements related to fluoropolymers or their use that seem incorrect? Note these down too
+ What alternatives are stated can replace fluoropolymers in your product, do you agree?
* Did you expect to see your application in the proposal but it is not there? Please flag this to FPG!
* Engage with your relevant trade association (at national, European, state or federal level -- depending where you are located) to understand ifthey will be actively engaged in responding to the public consultation

FPG socio-economic impact assessment (SEIA)
+ In anticipation of this public consultation, and of subsequent advocacy activities communicating the positions of fluoropolymer manufacturers and
users, we have engaged an external consultant (ERM) to prepare a
socioeconomic impact assessment (SEIA) on the importance of
fluoropolymers to the EU economy and society. This SEIA will be used to
support FPG's members' arguments for continued use of fluoropolymers in [IS
products and applications critical for the EU economy and society.
