The diagnosis of tetraethyl lead psychosis could rest on an authentic history of tetraethyl lead exposure and the presence of excitement, possibly maniacal, insomnia, anorexia, weakness and loss of weight, combined with increased lead concentration in urine and feces.

From the best information which is available to me I would feel that the hazard of the handling of your present "Vitol" mixture, from the aspect of evaporation of tetraethyl lead, would be approximately equivalent to that of handling gasoline containing 350 c.c. tetraethyl lead per gallon.

With a view to larger number of persons handling tetraethyl lead-alcohol-water solution as use of the device becomes more widespread, question was raised whether antiknock solution (Vitol) was more toxic than tetraethyl lead in handling during gasoline mixing process.

Hot infrequently the diagnosis of tetraethyl lead poisoning has been missed, and also the reverse has occurred in a number of instances, and we have been put to a great deal of trouble.
