It's still mission impossible for the Republican health bill
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did the seemingly impossible on Monday and got the votes he needed to proceed on consideration of the House plan for repealing and replacing Obamacare. At this point, it's hard to tell what will happen in the coming days, but the scene looks troubling. The problem for Senate Republicans is that their principal goal is incompatible with the process they are using to pass the legislation.

For today's progressives, marriage doesn't matter when it comes to fighting poverty. In a column titled "No, young people aren't poor because they're not married," Melissa Boteach and Anusha Ravi of the Center for American Progress argue that "[two] poor people getting married does not make anyone less poor." Their underlying assumption is that marriage is irrelevant to poverty simply because it's not a panacea.

In doing so, we violate Clausewitz's first dictum: to understand the nature of the conflict.

administration much less willing to prop it up. We aren't in a "death spiral," but some action will be needed, especially given the progress made on Capitol Hill this week. But Republicans don't seem to know what they want to achieve -- other than being able to say that they repealed Obamacare.
