State contractors are allowed to use aerial gunners for population control, but the measure would expand the practice to private parties. Aerial hog hunting is legal in Louisiana and Texas. Private landowners, companies and pilots could apply for state licenses for the activity. Hunters on board the aircraft would not need special licenses. The state agriculture department said it killed more than 11,200 hogs last year. The animals are often a nuisance in rural areas. Bill sponsor and Republican state Rep. Jeff Coody said the bill would fix over-regulation that has "put so many administrative rules on their books, it has made it difficult for private individuals to go out and shoot from an aircraft" (APISan Francisco Chronicle, March 29). -- NB Want to read more stories like this? That means that I will need to let them know about the move to EPA and begin making arrangements inside the firm for other lawyers to pick up the files. If I wait until the appointment (or appointment recommendation) becomes public, there may well be a delay in my start date as I work on those transitions. Of course, I will be discrete and will expect those that I contact to be so as well, but as the circle expands, there is a heightened risk that word will leak prior to the appointment. Under the heading of "no surprises," I wanted to let you know and solicit your point of view and recommendations.
