Wirth Chairman and Chief Executive Officer The Honorable Lee Zeldin Administrator U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20460 Dear Administrator Zeldin: Congratulations on your confirmation to be Administrator of the Environment Protection Agency. I look forward to working with you to address critical energy issues and drive economic growth in every corner of the country. U.S. energy policy should balance economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection. At Chevron, we strive to meet the world's growing energy demand while reducing emissions. We believe that energy security is national security, and the United States should play a key role in providing affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy now and in the future. Chevron has a long-term commitment to safely operating in the United States. In 2024, we achieved record production in the Permian Basin and celebrated the first oil from our technologically advanced Anchor project in the deepwater Gulf of America. Energy demand is projected to continue to rise from current record highs well into the future and Chevron will meet that demand by continuing to increase production from our operations across the United States. Chevron stands ready to assist you and your staff in developing balanced energy policies. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly or to our Vice President of Government Affairs, Karen Knutson, at (202) 408-5858 or karenknutson@chevron.com, if we can provide any information or further partnership. Eric and Travis - On April 6, 2024, at approximately 6 pm MST, a well control incident occurred at one of Chevron's well locations near Galeton, CO. Chevron notified the Weld County Office of Emergency Management and all appropriate regulatory agencies. Galeton Fire Department is on location and, as a precaution, evacuated a half-mile perimeter around the incident site. An injury to one contractor's employee was reported, and that individual was taken to a local medical facility. All other personnel are accounted for and in a secure location. ED_018475D_00000940-00002 Chevron's priority is the safety and security of people and the environment. We activated our emergency response procedures and implemented air monitoring at and around the incident site. At this time, we anticipate shutdown of the well tonight or tomorrow. A Unified Command was established to manage a coordinated response effort that includes the Weld County Office of Emergency Management, Galeton Fire District, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission, and Environmental Protection Agency. Currently, we are focused on the safety of our local community and response personnel, controlling the source, containing, and recovering released material, and protecting environmentally sensitive areas. Well control experts have been mobilized and are on location to assess the situation and take any necessary actions. Containment boom and other protection devices have been deployed to help contain wellbore fluids away from ditches and waterways. Please reach out with questions.
