ANWR seismic data
Lisa and Shelbi:
Just concluded meeting with attorneys from Solicitors Office and asked about providing to ExxonMobil documents that demonstrate the responsibility conveyed to the USGS for archiving the 1984-1985 field data. They suggested that you email Tony Irish and Tim Murphy (cc'ed) and tell them what you need.
Hope this works for you!
Thanks,

ANWR seismic data
Hello All:
One point that I neglected to emphasize today is that when images of seismic lines are presented in public or published, the location of each image is concealed. In some cases, no location is shown. In most cases, a generalized location is shown, but the location is larger than lease-sale blocks. This is a stipulation of seismic vendors when they consider approving a request to show/publish images of their data. I can provide examples of location maps that we have published if that would be of use as you finalize your opinion. This stipulation is intended to avoid an unscrupulous company from identifying locations of oil or gas prospects that could be leased and drilled based on images shown in public or published.

Thanks for your time and effort in evaluating the questions raised by the USGS regarding the 1984-1985 ANWR 2-D seismic survey!

Hi Tony and Tim,
As a follow-up to Dave's note below, ExxonMobil is working to provide the USGS with some seismic line segments from the 1984-85 ANWR GSI 2D group shoot that is missing/damaged. Given the passage of time since the data was acquired, while we've found some documentation that aids in our understanding of the data acquisition and rights that USGS has to the data, we could certainly benefit from help from USGS. If USGS could provide a letter that contains:
From what party and when USGS originally obtained the data (I'm assuming it was from GSI which presumably no longer has the data)
The regulations that entitle USGS to the data or compel the acquiring party(ies) to give the data to USGS (ANILCA? Can we give the data straight to USGS or is/was US Wildlife & Fisheries somehow involved?)
How the data will be treated by USGS from a confidentiality standpoint (i.e., confirming the government will be bound by same confidentiality as was originally required when USGS originally obtained the data)
I think that this information would help us with our data disclosure approval and eliminate the need for
some sort of separate agreement to cover the release of the lines. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and thank you in advance for your help. Have a great weekend!
Kind Regards,
Shelbi M. McKee

Thanks, Shelbi!
It was confirmed earlier this week that the 84-85 2D ANWR data we are reprocessing will remain proprietary and that the USGS will not show any derived images in public or publications. Tim and Tony have reviewed the ANILCA legistation and much of the 80s vintage correspondence and should be able to provide the documentation you seek.
On a different topic, any progress on the NDA related to oil samples from elsewhere in Alaska? I will be in Houston next week, so feel free to text or call my cell if you're ready for a signature:

Hello Tony and Tim:
Would it be possible to respond to this inquiry from Shelbi McKee (ExxonMobil)? All she needs is a short statement that addresses the three bullets in her email. If you cannot address the third bullet directly, I can send her a statement pertaining to USGS maintaining the confidentiality of the data.
ExxonMobil is willing to provide the USGS with small segments of the original data that are missing from our archive, apparently because of magnetic media deterioration. We need these segments to complete the ongoing seismic processing.
Thanks!
