Dear Mr. Caplan
Re
Fireproofing Osteopathic College
~
Our Mr. Charles Wall has suggested we write you pertaining to asbestos content of fireproofing products
Our Pyrospray Type I fireproofing formulation contains 32 Chrysotile asbestos by weight for the application required a 3/8 thickness of Pyrospray would be applied to beam surfaces Thus the total amount
of asbestos present per square foot of exposed surface would be 0.11 pounds
From information received and published should the fireproofing be installed using Kote a 1/2 thickness of material needs to be
applied and the resulting asbestos content per square foot would be
0.09 pounds the asbestos
When comparing the two products it can be noted
content based on the volume of material installed
that be-
significant
With respect to fireproofing being installed in buildings we are
enclosing a copy of an air erosion test report the results of which
are in keeping with G.S.A. cribing the test procedure
closed
Standards A in the G.S.A.
copy of the reprint desrequirements is also en-
.
Some time ago the Sprayed M^nefaltManufacturers Association
engaged the serviced of William R. Bradley and Associates Environ-
mental Health Consultants to determine the presence of asbestos
fibers in buildings fireproofed with sprayed mineral fiber products

You will note that the report states that it has been determined by air sampling and microscopic evaluation that there is no exposure to
asbestos fibers of respirable size in the work environment of the
buildings tested
For your interest we are also enclosing a copy of a study recently conducted in England entitled A Dust Survey Carried Out in Buildings
Incorporating Asbestos Materials in Their Construction note the last paragraph on Page 145 which reads as follows
Please
In our present state of knowledge the dust concentrations found in completed buildings incorporating asbestos products in their construction are not considered likely to
constitute a hazard to the health of the ooccupants
We appreciate your interest and concern relative to asbestos fibers and hope you realize that a lot of the adverse comments have been by
a number of people who are uninformed of the facts We hope what is being submitted will prove of value and if we can be of any help in the future may we have the pleasure of hearing from you
eee. Very truly yours
