Thanks Michael. Here a few specific questions:
- A number of outside observers, scientists, and environmental lawyers have seen the EPA under Mr. Pruitt as representing a stark shift for the agency, with a forceful agenda of regulatory rollback. Does it? Is there reason for concern about the strength or enforcement of the nation's environmental laws and protections? How would you characterize the shift in mission and direction for the agency?
- Some of Mr. Pruitt's attempts to roll back or not enforce certain rules, like the methane emissions rule, have run into legal barriers. What is the strategy moving forward on something like this? Did the court's ruling on the methane rule enforcement shift thinking at all about how other rules (WOTUS, the Clean Power Plan, coal ash, the new ozone standard) might be approached or enforced?
- Some people are very concerned that proposed budget cuts for the EPA would drastically curb the agency's ability to perform the tasks needed to monitor sites, do research, clean up Superfund sites, and enforce regulations. Do you have any comment on that? Will advancing science around
- What does Mr. Pruitt see as his primary goals for the EPA and what he hopes to accomplish there. Where/how does he want to leave his mark?
In terms of the scope of the story - I'm not sure what you're asking beyond the description I gave in my email query. But it's really looking in a somewhat comprehensive way at what the impacts could be (or are likely to be) from the shift in direction and priorities of the EPA, and how that may play out over the next few years.

Enesta (cc'ing a couple other press contacts as well):
I'm a staff writer at the CSMonitor, and am working on a story about the EPA under Scott Pruitt. Ultimately, the piece is looking at the pretty stark shift in direction for the EPA under Mr. Pruitt's direction, and what the potential impact of the changes he's making - particularly in regulatory rollback, budget, and enforcement - could mean, as well as the legal roadblocks to enacting some of those changes. Ed love to get feedback for the story from the EPA, and am hoping you can direct me to the best person. My deadline is tomorrow.
Many thanks, Amanda
