WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE... "Top House Democrat says Pelosi should step aside," by Heather Caygle: "Rep. Linda Snchez, a member of House Democratic leadership, said Thursday she thinks it's time for longtime Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and her top lieutenants to step down. 'I do think we have this real breadth and depth of talent within our caucus and I do think it's time to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders,' Sanchez said Thursday on C-SPAN.
"Snchez currently serves as vice chairwoman of the House Democratic Caucus, the lowest ranking leadership position. Still, her comments are surprising given her prominent position within the caucus and the fact that she and Pelosi both represent California, generally a tight-knit group within the caucus. 'I want to be a part of that transition, I want to see that happen,' Snchez continued when asked if she thinks the same three leaders should stay in place if Democrats win back the House next year. -- CRITIQUES of Nancy Pelosi and opinions about whether she and her top lieutenants have stayed too long have been voiced behind the scenes for years. But, the fact that a member of her own leadership team publicly was willing to say they need to leave is a first. While several Democratic lawmakers and aides told us this isn't the time to air grievances in public, it is a telling reminder of the agitation for change and frustration within her ranks for new leadership after seven years in the minority.

BUT, BUT, BUT .... Pelosi had a really good September. Even her detractors privately say she's at the top of her game at the moment. Several Democrats publicly backed her after Sanchez's comments. No one is running against her, or can beat her, for now. And, Pelosi would have a very strong case for staying in power if Democrats win the majority in the House.

CHAMPAGNE TASTE -- "Seven Flights for $800,000: Mnuchin's Travel on Military Jets," by NYT's Alan Rappeport: "Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has flown on military aircraft seven times since March at a cost of more than $800,000, including a $15,000 round-trip flight to New York to meet with President Trump at Trump Tower, according to the Treasury Department's Office of Inspector General. The inquiry into Mr. Mnuchin's air travel, prompted by an Instagram posting by his wife, found he broke no laws in his use of military aircraft but lamented the loose justification provided for such costly flights.
