Rouse Paints
Rhite Creosote Paint Y-596-A: Three year exposure tests have been completed, on Y-596-A and a modified Y-596-A wherein 4 lbs. of lithopone v:ere replaced /ith 1 lb., of Titanium Oxide and necessary calcium carbonate to balance the pigment volume. One and two coats v/ere applied on rough wood fencing as used on stock farmB in the South. The Y-59&-A has checked, cracked and. almost completely flaked off. Tho modified formula while it is showing some checking and cracking still shows a fairly good paint film protecting the wood.
Drying TiOg/ZnO/Pb Paints vs. TiOg/ZnO (Lead Free Paints): Two other companies and Glidden prepared both types of paint for drying studies to bo made by Lead Industries. Re received their samples so we could make an independent check. Our first tests v/ere made in February. Roth interior and exterior tests v/ere run. The outdoor temperature was 45-50 and dropped to high 301s during the night. Our check-up after 6 months aging were run on a day when it v/as cloudy and humid in the morning but clearing in the afternoon. Second day was warm and clear, Ragle Picher submitted Fed. Spec'n Paints TT-P-102-A o.nd TT-P-103* Sherv/in Williams submitted their #269 and fr?70. './'e submitted ;^12-19-3 (Y-1B00 Type) and Q12-19-A (Y-1850 Type). Our paints showed better dry initially and better drying on aging. The paints containing load pigment geneaally show the better dry.

Lustre Paint
ThiB pa'nt has been on cynosure one year in comparison v/ith Crylight Green Y-1828.
One and two coats were e'poood on both wood and metal. Armstrong's Green shows
cracking v/here only once coat is a-died to wood. Also, rusting is shown where
one coat is arilied over metal. Both ;rcens show fading. Armstrong shows more
of a grayish green cast. Y-1828 shovro more of a yellowish green cast. Both show
some chalking. The greater porosity of a flat color is shown in the cracking on
wood and corrosion on steel.
Eastman Kodak A series of enamelc v/ith different vehicles have been made up and submitted to the above account for their evaluation. They are endeavoring to find a wall finish which will not cause fogging of photographic film. The pigmentation in each enamel v/as comor.ed of w-170-4 lbs. and. W-33-1/2 lbs. The different vehicles were V-R72, PJ>_5?21 (Soya 2pon) Reichold's 1941, Reicholds P-546 and IJSE-159

The customer has found that lead driers in the wall finishes tend to cause fogging of film "being processed in a given area.
White Tire Paint GL-62397 was formulated for A. & E. to match Gold Eaglo Products White Tire Paint. It 1g a few cents Chenier than our precent Y-422 White Tire Paint* We have been endeavoring to buy either a cheaper rubber solution of the M-318 type or to use 0. milled crooe rubber and thus make our own rubber solution. We have not been able so far to obtain any cheaper materials as the price appears to "be uniform throughout the rubber industry.
Proctor & Gamble Co. Laboratory has formulated materials to meet Specifications for Proctor & Gamble. Those specifications cover Iwonty-two different items. The Glldden Co. has been given the opportunity of supplying their needs for six months. Standard samples and chips were submitted of each item. Preliminary samples have been submitted on some items over a period of two years, but it was only recently that they decided to change their present source of paints.
Dependable Paint Co. Groy Structural Paint GL-62403 was formulated to take 25p> to 30^ reduction with Penetral for brushing. Customer reouested use of some fish oil also to keep film more elastic. Gloss of 60-65 reouested.
