This week's shot to undo the harm of Dodd-
The Choice Act, a bill that would repeal or substantially modify large portions of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, is on the House floor this week. There are good reasons for every one of the dozens of provisions in the bill, but first it's important to understand two significant things about the ideologically driven Dodd-Frank law: It is primarily responsible for the historically slow recovery of the US economy since 2008, and, most important, it was completely unnecessary.

The ultimate bipartisan compromise for paid family leave

Last year, a group of bipartisan experts joined forces under the umbrella of AEI and the Brookings Institution to explore paid family leave in the United States. The group, comprised of many people with government experience in both Democratic and Republican administrations, didn't agree on every question, such as how generous benefits should be. But everyone agreed on one key point: A paid family leave policy is needed in America.

Republicans, ignore the CBO at your own political peril
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has been criticized often by both parties since it began issuing cost estimates for legislation in the 1970s. So it was not surprising to hear the Trump administration complain when the agency released an unflattering assessment of the American Health Care Act. The CBO has gotten plenty of things wrong over the years, but you would be hard-pressed to find an agency with more useful feedback on the GOP's path to reform.

May. When she called the election in April, the decision looked like a masterstroke: The Labour Party was hitting historic lows in the polls, losing constituencies it had dominated since the 1930s. But a month and a half is a long time in politics, and the picture days ahead of the vote looks far less certain -- in no small part because of the latest attack in London.
