Hope everything is going well, and that we're still on track to have the Governors over there on Saturday.
A few updates:
See the latest run of show for the list of Governors and Cabinet attending - we're up to 11 Governors and 3 Cabinet members. And thanks for your help with outreach to those folks - it's really appreciated! At this point, we've also got 19 staff RSVPs, so at least 30 folks trying to get in your door, not including security detail. We'll get you the current list at some point tomorrow, and let you know of any additional folks by 6:00 pm EST on Wednesday, as previously discussed. I'm sure we'll get some stragglers Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sorry if there was confusion around the question of a side room / overflow room. From our initial conversation, it sounded like you were planning to have some space not in the Secretary's office for food setup and with some chairs for staff if everyone couldn't fit. From Kevin, it sounded like that plan had changed. I just want to make sure we've got room for everyone, even if it's not in the actual room. If you look at the run of show, we're not promising that folks will be able to see or hear conversation in the Secretary's office, just that they'll have some proximity to what's going on.
I still haven't heard back on catering options. If it's useful, we used Allspice Catering last time DOI hosted the Governors. We're happy to reach out to them; just let us know if that's alright and we'll go from there.

For security screening purposes, attendees' names, including security detail, must be submitted to DOI by 5:00 pm EST on Wednesday, February 19. Please RSVP to Toni Vigil (tvigil@westgov.org) at WGA, who will compile attendee information and submit it to DOI.
The breakfast will be held in the Secretary's office, which has limited space. Each WGA state and territory is permitted one staff to attend the breakfast. Each attending Governor and Cabinet member is permitted one staff member. If any state or territory would like additional staff to attend, it is likely they will be denied entry to the Secretary's office. DOI is planning to have an overflow room available for staff, but that space will not be physically connected to the Secretary's office, nor will audio or visuals of the meeting be available in the overflow room.

Notes
There will be no audio or video recording of the event, nor will any media be present. Attendees may reference the meeting on their social media platforms, but reference to any items discussed at the meeting should be agreed to beforehand by all parties.

Hey Ashley:
Safe flight, but pretty miserable. They clearly forgot how to heat the aircraft, and it was -71 outside (well, that's what the flight data thing said). With your North Dakota roots, you would have loved it, but everyone on my row, at least, was bundled up in coats, hats, and gloves. Quite uncomfortable.
On to actual stuff: sounds like we're on track, and moving ahead with Allspice for food. Sarah Olsen, who will be joining us Saturday and is copied here, is taking lead on that outreach for now. One question we've got is how early the caterers can get in there for setup; in the past, we've done that at least a couple of hours in advance (so, like 6:00 am would be great, if that works for everyone). Sarah may have additional questions, but I'll let her pose those.
Danny gave me instructions on Govs bios and possible Qs, which I'll deliver separately.
One thing I promised you today is a list of attendees for security. That's attached as an Excel file; if you need more information than what we've got here, let me know. I'll also get you a list by 6:00 pm tomorrow with any additional folks.

Hope everything is going well, and that we're still on track to have the Governors over there on Saturday.
A few updates:
See the latest run of show for the list of Governors and Cabinet attending - we're up to 11 Governors and 3 Cabinet members. And thanks for your help with outreach to those folks - it's really appreciated! At this point, we've also got 19 staff RSVPs, so at least 30 folks trying to get in your door, not including security detail. We'll get you the current list at some point tomorrow, and let you know of any additional folks by 6:00 pm EST on Wednesday, as previously discussed. I'm sure we'll get some stragglers Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sorry if there was confusion around the question of a side room / overflow room. From our initial conversation, it sounded like you were planning to have some space not in the Secretary's office for food setup and with some chairs for staff if everyone couldn't fit. From Kevin, it sounded like that plan had changed. I just want to make sure we've got room for everyone, even if it's not in the actual room. If you look at the run of show, we're not promising that folks will be able to see or hear conversation in the Secretary's office, just that they'll have some proximity to what's going on. I still haven't heard back on catering options. If it's useful, we used Allspice Catering last time DOI hosted the Governors. Hey Ashley:
Safe flight, but pretty miserable. They clearly forgot how to heat the aircraft, and it was -71 outside (well, that's what the flight data thing said). With your North Dakota roots, you would have loved it, but everyone on my row, at least, was bundled up in coats, hats, and gloves. Quite uncomfortable.
On to actual stuff: sounds like we're on track, and moving ahead with Allspice for food. Sarah Olsen, who will be joining us Saturday and is copied here, is taking lead on that outreach for now. One question we've got is how early the caterers can get in there for setup; in the past, we've done that at least a couple of hours in advance (so, like 6:00 am would be great, if that works for everyone). Sarah may have additional questions, but I'll let her pose those.
Danny gave me instructions on Govs bios and possible Qs, which I'll deliver separately.
One thing I promised you today is a list of attendees for security. That's attached as an Excel file; if you need more information than what we've got here, let me know. I'll also get you a list by 6:00 pm tomorrow with any additional folks.

DOI is planning to have an overflow room available for staff, but that space will not be physically connected to the Secretary's office, nor will audio or visuals of the meeting be available in the overflow room.

First, we heard tonight from the offices of DOE Secretary Wright and USDA Secretary Rollins that their bosses will be attending the breakfast, so thank you for any outreach you did to their offices on our behalf.
Second, this evening I reached out to the IGA and/or scheduling teams at DHS, DoD, DOT, EPA, and Treasury, to let them know of the updated venue (DOI) for the breakfast and sent them relevant information. I know my colleague Troy previously asked if you wouldn't mind reaching out to DHS Secretary Noem and EPA Administrator Zeldin about attending, since they've been invited but we've not heard from them on a confirmation yet. We have not officially invited OMB Director Vought (who Troy also asked if you could reach out to) since we do not have contact information for anyone in their IGA and/or scheduling office (but I did ask Alex Meyer, Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, for that contact information and am awaiting a name), so if you have a contact over at OMB that you could send the invite to it would be greatly appreciated.
To facilitate outreach to the aforementioned agencies, I have included a sample copy of the email I sent to DHS, DoD, DOT, EPA, and Treasury this evening (see below), as well as the latest breakfast agenda and run of show (see attached), so you will have all the same language we are using in our outreach. I figure if we're both using the same language for outreach and hitting the above-mentioned agencies from two sides (WGA and DOI), it gives us a better chance to drive attendance amongst the Secretary's colleagues.

Attached here is the general run of show for the event, and I'll change up the location in a little bit.
Outstanding items for you all:
Drop-dead date to get names to you for security purposes, and what specific information you'll need from everyone.
List of approved caterers. Once we know who you're okay with, we'll work with them directly on menu and payment. I'm assuming that they'll work with you on security aspects, but if not, we'll need the name of someone for them to work with. And again: worst case, we'll haul in a bunch of Dunkin Donuts and a few gallons of coffee.
What's the room number for the Secretary's office? Or I can just use "Secretary's Suite" for the location.
Last time we did this, we told everyone to use the C Street entrance; if you'd just confirm that's where you want people to show up and get processed, that'd be great.
As we discussed, at this point Secretary Burgum is our only confirmed Cabinet attendee. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to DOE Secretary Wright, USDA Secretary Designee Rollins, DHS Secretary Noem, EPA Administrator Zelnick, and OMB Director Vought about attending, we'd be in your debt. Those offices are (well, should be) aware of the invite, but we don't have confirmations from any.
Again on numbers and setup: we've got 8 confirmed Governors, probably will get at least a few more. I'd say 12, as that's probably our past average, but potentially more. Plus one staff for each Governor, although many will show up with more than that, plus we normally allow one staff for non-attending Governors as well. Plus five WGA staff, plus whatever you've got, plus staff for any other Cabinet. Typically, we'll have about 35-45

people total for this event. I'll reiterate that that seems like a big number for the Secretary's office, but I'll leave it to you to figure out how to get a table for 20 (for Govs and Cabinet) and perimeter seating (for staff) crammed in there. If we need to rachet the number back, let me know and we'll figure something out.
Finally, Danny: we'd love to set up a time earlier in the week to talk generally about DOI, what WGA is all about, and how we can work together on shared priorities. If you've got some availability, we'll be out there from Wednesday (February 19) on. Toss us some slots and we'll get ourselves over there.

As we discussed, I am looping in the key members of the WGA team who will be onsite with us for the breakfast and can help with all the logistics (food, invites, programming, etc).
Team - here is what we know so far:
-Danny confirmed that Secretary Burgum will host Western Governors for the breakfast on Saturday, Feb 22nd from 8-9:30am (with perhaps starting food around 7:30 for Governors who may arrive earlier).
-The next step is for Danny to check with the Secretary and team to see what the best location within the building to hold the meeting (we anticipate 35-40 total including Govs, spouses (potentially), and staff).
-Danny will circle back with us early next week to confirm the location, so we can get out updated address/room location to Govs and Cabinet invites.
Perhaps at that time, we can get the WGA crew along with Danny and others on his team to set up a coordinating call/zoom to discuss next steps, etc.

I'm assuming that they'll work with you on security aspects, but if not, we'll need the name of someone for them to work with. And again: worst case, we'll haul in a bunch of Dunkin Donuts and a few gallons of coffee.
What's the room number for the Secretary's office? Or I can just use "Secretary's Suite" for the location.
Last time we did this, we told everyone to use the C Street entrance; if you'd just confirm that's where you want people to show up and get processed, that'd be great.
As we discussed, at this point Secretary Burgum is our only confirmed Cabinet attendee. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to DOE Secretary Wright, USDA Secretary Designee Rollins, DHS Secretary Noem, EPA Administrator Zelnick, and OMB Director Vought about attending, we'd be in your debt. Those offices are (well, should be) aware of the invite, but we don't have confirmations from any.
Again on numbers and setup: we've got 8 confirmed Governors, probably will get at least a few more. I'd say 12, as that's probably our past average, but potentially more. Plus one staff for each Governor, although many will show up with more than that, plus we normally allow one staff for non-attending Governors as well. Plus five WGA staff, plus whatever you've got, plus staff for any other Cabinet. Typically, we'll have about 35-45 people total for this event. I'll reiterate that that seems like a big number for the Secretary's office, but I'll leave it to you to figure out how to get a table for 20 (for Govs and Cabinet) and perimeter seating (for staff) crammed in there. If we need to rachet the number back, let me know and we'll figure something out.
Finally, Danny: we'd love to set up a time earlier in the week to talk generally about DOI, what WGA is all about, and how we can work together on shared priorities. If you've got some availability, we'll be out there from Wednesday (February 19) on. Toss us some slots and we'll get ourselves over there.

Purpose
The meeting provides an opportunity for assembled Governors and Cabinet members to have an off-the-record, informal conversation on issues of mutual interest and seek opportunities for state-federal collaboration on shared priorities.
Notes
There will be no audio or video recording of the event, nor will any media be present. Attendees may reference the meeting on their social media platforms, but reference to any items discussed at the meeting should be agreed to beforehand by all parties.
There will be a group photograph taken at the conclusion of the event. Digital copies will be made available to all attendees.
Each Governor and Cabinet official is permitted one staff member to attend the meeting. Governors and Cabinet officials will be seated at a hollow round table. Table tents will identify the seating arrangement. Staff will occupy perimeter seating.

Thanks so much for taking the time just now. I really appreciate it.
Attached here is the general run of show for the event, and I'll change up the location in a little bit.
Outstanding items for you all:
Drop-dead date to get names to you for security purposes, and what specific information you'll need from everyone.
List of approved caterers. Once we know who you're okay with, we'll work with them directly on menu and payment. I'm assuming that they'll work with you on security aspects, but if not, we'll need the name of someone for them to work with. And again: worst case, we'll haul in a bunch of Dunkin Donuts and a few gallons of coffee.
What's the room number for the Secretary's office? Or I can just use "Secretary's Suite" for the location.
Last time we did this, we told everyone to use the C Street entrance; if you'd just confirm that's where you want people to show up and get processed, that'd be great.
As we discussed, at this point Secretary Burgum is our only confirmed Cabinet attendee. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to DOE Secretary Wright, USDA Secretary Designee Rollins, DHS Secretary Noem, EPA Administrator Zelnick, and OMB Director Vought about attending, we'd be in your debt. Those offices are (well, should be) aware of the invite, but we don't have confirmations from any.
Again on numbers and setup: we've got 8 confirmed Governors, probably will get at least a few more. I'd say 12, as that's probably our past average, but potentially more. Plus one staff for each Governor, although many will show up with more than that, plus we normally allow one staff for non-attending Governors as well. Plus five WGA staff, plus whatever you've got, plus staff for any other Cabinet. Typically, we'll have about 35-45 people total for this event. I'll reiterate that that seems like a big number for the Secretary's office, but I'll leave it to you to figure out how to get a table for 20 (for Govs and Cabinet) and perimeter seating (for staff) crammed in there. If we need to rachet the number back, let me know and we'll figure something out.
Finally, Danny: we'd love to set up a time earlier in the week to talk generally about DOI, what WGA is all about, and how we can work together on shared priorities. If you've got some availability, we'll be out there from Wednesday (February 19) on. Toss us some slots and we'll get ourselves over there.
I'm probably forgetting other stuff, and some of the other WGA staff on here can chime in if I've left out something important. You've got my mobile if you have any questions or need anything else.

I wanted to touch base regarding the WGA Breakfast planning on February 22nd.

The Secretary and team are pleased to host this event, in the Secretary's Suite at the Department of the Interior Building. The Department of the Interior is located at 1849 C St NW, Washington, DC 20240.
Members of our team and I will be happy to meet and escort guests up to the Secretary's Suite upon their arrival. As far as times go, we can open doors at 7:30 am and have and the breakfast taking place between the 8-9:30 am timeframe you had mentioned.
We are working with our security team at the building to get unfettered access into the building for Governors, their protective detail, staff and spouses.

Danny - great to connect with you this afternoon! I really appreciate all your outreach and support this week with respect to the WGA Cabinet Breakfast on Feb 22nd, and please convey our deep appreciation to the Governor...ahem, I mean Secretary (!) for his generous offer to host the Governors that Saturday morning!
As we discussed, I am looping in the key members of the WGA team who will be onsite with us for the breakfast and can help with all the logistics (food, invites, programming, etc).
Team - here is what we know so far:
-Danny confirmed that Secretary Burgum will host Western Governors for the breakfast on Saturday, Feb 22nd from 8-9:30am (with perhaps starting food around 7:30 for Governors who may arrive earlier).
-The next step is for Danny to check with the Secretary and team to see what the best location within the building to hold the meeting (we anticipate 35-40 total including Govs, spouses (potentially), and staff).
-Danny will circle back with us early next week to confirm the location, so we can get out updated address/room location to Govs and Cabinet invites.

Hey Ashley:
Safe flight, but pretty miserable. They clearly forgot how to heat the aircraft, and it was -71 outside (well, that's what the flight data thing said). With your North Dakota roots, you would have loved it, but everyone on my row, at least, was bundled up in coats, hats, and gloves. Quite uncomfortable.
On to actual stuff: sounds like we're on track, and moving ahead with Allspice for food. Sarah Olsen, who will be joining us Saturday and is copied here, is taking lead on that outreach for now. One question we've got is how early the caterers can get in there for setup; in the past, we've done that at least a couple of hours in advance (so, like 6:00 am would be great, if that works for everyone). Sarah may have additional questions, but I'll let her pose those.
Danny gave me instructions on Govs bios and possible Qs, which I'll deliver separately.
One thing I promised you today is a list of attendees for security. That's attached as an Excel file; if you need more information than what we've got here, let me know. I'll also get you a list by 6:00 pm tomorrow with any additional folks.

Hope everything is going well, and that we're still on track to have the Governors over there on Saturday.
A few updates:
See the latest run of show for the list of Governors and Cabinet attending - we're up to 11 Governors and 3 Cabinet members. And thanks for your help with outreach to those folks - it's really appreciated! At this point, we've also got 19 staff RSVPs, so at least 30 folks trying to get in your door, not including security detail. We'll get you the current list at some point tomorrow, and let you know of any additional folks by 6:00 pm EST on Wednesday, as previously discussed. I'm sure we'll get some stragglers Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sorry if there was confusion around the question of a side room / overflow room. From our initial conversation, it sounded like you were planning to have some space not in the Secretary's office for food setup and with some chairs for staff if everyone couldn't fit. From Kevin, it sounded like that plan had changed. I just want to make sure we've got room for everyone, even if it's not in the actual room. If you look at the run of show, we're not promising that folks will be able to see or hear conversation in the Secretary's office, just that they'll have some proximity to what's going on.
I still haven't heard back on catering options. If it's useful, we used Allspice Catering last time DOI hosted the Governors. We're happy to reach out to them; just let us know if that's alright and we'll go from there.

I just wanted to send you a quick note thanking you and the team for hosting the Annual WGA Breakfast Meeting with Cabinet Officials on February 22, and for getting the Secretary there. I know it's not easy to convince a Cabinet official to go to an event at 8:00 am on a Saturday, even when it's at his own office, so we very much appreciate all your efforts on the Governors' and WGA's behalf.
One item I wanted to follow up on is the information on WGA's upcoming Annual Meeting. That meeting will be taking place from June 23 - 25 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. As part of the programming for the event, the Governors invite a number of Cabinet Officials, including the Secretary of the Interior, to give a keynote address. We will be following up soon with an official invitation from the Governors for your boss to join them in Santa Fe. In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions about the Annual Meeting.
Finally, please keep WGA in mind as a resource when having conversations around, or when moving, policy issues that affect the West. I know the Governors want to assist (as do our staff) where they can in achieving wins for the American people, so please do not hesitate to reach out if we can be helpful in any way.
