I'm pleased to share with you BP's seventh annual U.S. Economic Impact Report detailing the depth of BP's continued commitment to America. The report reflects not only the scope of our U.S. businesses but also illustrates how we are building a safer, stronger, more sustainable company and contributing to America's economy.
I hope you will take time to read this report and share it with others. Here are a few highlights:
BP is energizing America's economy. We employ nearly 14,000 people coast to coast, and we support more than 200,000 additional American jobs with our operations and activities. We generated $100 billion in economic value for America in 2018. BP invested $115 billion in the U.S. from 2005 to 2018. We are committed to the communities where we live and work. BP donated $118 million to community programs from 2014 to 2018. BP is committed to the dual challenge, providing energy to meet increasing demand while reducing emissions, improving our products, and creating lower-carbon businesses.
BP has made significant changes over the last 12 months. We took over operations of new world-class assets in Texas and Louisiana. We also made the difficult decision to sell our Alaska business. Throughout these changes - and with our ongoing operations across the country - we have kept safety our number one priority and the foundation of everything we do.
