Approximately 18 route miles of the total is inactive. TRAFFIC At four sites coal is moved by Peabody locomotives from mines to prep plants and to rail heads at transportation facilities such as docks and truck-loading facilities or directly to power plants. At the remaining fourteen sites. Class (railroads bring their equipment instances onto the property and load the cars while on our premises. As indicated above in Lines, none of our railroad operations are of substantial distance save the 43-mile stretch leading to Lee Ranch in NM, and all are located in a rural environment. See attached for detailed breakdown. TRACK Most lines are single track. The exceptions are: those in West Virginia, where there is multiple track operation at every Prep. Plant (see attached); a five-mile addition which became operable on 10/1/94 at Rochelle, WY, doubling capacity, but not route miies. TRACTION AND ROLUNG STOCK Thirteen locomotives (nine owned, four leased) located at seven different sites. 668 hopper cars (66 owned, 602 leased). They inspect 49 dams weekly and an additional eight quarterly. There are no adverse reports, deficiencies or citations for any impoundment structures at this time (08/01795). There are twenty-four impoundments of six hundred acre feet or larger. The largest is six thousand (6,000) acre feet and is located approximately two miles from Freeburg, lb. Only two are located closer than one mile to a town. One has an area of 1,632 feet and is approximately 1,000 feet from Twilight, WV, a town of 200. The other has an area of 3,637 acre feet and is located .5 miles from Prenter, WV. Peabody claim records reflect that no claim exceeding $25,000 has been made against Peabody for damages arising out of a dam or impoundment incident for the period 1978 through July 31, 1995. I sent you earlier this morning the letter on USI claims. This is confirm our understanding regarding a number ofthings that relate directly to the pricing ofthe renewal. Don wants quotations for limits of$75 million and $100 million excess of $75 million, $100 million and $125 million. Eastern will not be included on the renewal quotation. The English government has yet to approve the merger. Same sales as last year ($3.5 million) LfC GLD055947 0049-GLD-000055947 The proportion of sales on Peabody Coal has changed significantly. The deep shaft sales now comprise only 45% (versus 53% last year) of all Peabody's sales. He also said that he is getting the UK sales and we will have these soon. It is very important that we get this information prior to the renewal so I would appreciate your staying on top of this. Don also advised that Hanson may be responsible for some claims in the excess area. He used as an example claims related to US and Kidde. He also advised that Krupp retains no liabilities on cranes made by Krupp before the sale to Hanson. We advised that our policy does not respond to " rip and tear" claims.
