Kevin- my sincere apologies for the delay here - I had to head straight back to Houston this week so I've been spotty on email.
It was great to meet you at CERA last week and thanks for the follow-up. In terms of materials, I'm attaching a presentation I gave in the fall on the state of U.S. natural gas markets that should be an interesting read for you. A couple key themes for us at the moment:
About 35% of US natural gas goes into the power sector (by far the largest share), and with the advent of data centers and a re-shoring of manufacturing, electricity demand is slated to grow rapidly over the next decade. We view this as a big opportunity for natural gas - more gas-fired power plants to meet rising demand - but there some hurdles we need to overcome, including getting pipelines built and navigating some market issues that make it difficult to build new gas plants.
On the LNG side, the Biden LNG permitting pause is lifted and Pres. Trump is greenlighting facilities that have been stuck in limbo years. Our big challenge, however, is regulations out of Europe that are making it difficult for our members to sign long-term contracts to sell LNG. The EU methane regulation and the CSDDD/CSRD regs are some of the key issues.
Bottom line is that natural gas has a great opportunity and the US is fortunate to be the top producer of it, so we're looking to make sure we remove any unnecessary barriers to get it moving
