The rulemaking was in response to new labeling requirements imposed by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The update was informed by a consumer research campaign, meetings with stakeholders and written comments from the public. At this time, EPA has no plans to initiate formal rulemaking to revise the current label. For more information: Final Rule for Revisions and Additions to Motor Vehicle Fuel Economy Label MPGe: For vehicles that do not use liquid fuels, the label displays fuel economy as miles per gallon of gasolineequivalent (MPGe), where a gallon of gasoline-equivalent means the number of kilowatt-hours of electricity, cubic feet of CNG, or kilograms of hydrogen that is equal to the energy in a gallon of gasoline. MPG has appeared on the label for several decades, and it is well understood by the public. Also, it's required by The Energy Policy and Conservation Act (label must display fuel economy, defined as "the average number of miles travelled by an automobile for each gallon of gasoline (or equivalent amount of other fuel) used.") I'd like to talk to someone soon (this week) for my story, so I'm hoping you can help me out. The story is on the window stickers themselves, not on the EPA specifically, and how they currently display the numbers relating to a plug-in vehicle. I want to cover the history of how the MPGe and EV range number were added, as well as share if the government is working with the OEMs on the next revisions already. If not, then I'd like to hear what the EPA is thinking about for what those discussions might cover when they do arrive. Basically, a piece that looks at the window sticker in relation to plug-in cars. Does that help? Sierra Club v. Can you tell me more about your story (focusing, say, on EPA, or part of something bigger?), and send some questions? Just so I know who do direct them to? Also, what's your deadline and when are you planning to publish your story? Thanks, R. I'm an automotive journalist focused on green transportation news. I am writing you because I am working on a story for Automotive News about the EPA's window sticker in the electric vehicle era. Specifically, I'd like to talk to someone about the history of the inclusion of the MPGe Sierra Club v.
