SUPERFUND REPORTING
At 6:20 p.m. on 3/1/84 I reported a discharge of VCM to the air to the National Response Center. Petty Officer Bryan accepted the report. Re asked for my name and title, the company's name, address and phone number, and the location of the release. He asked for the time of the release, and I told him that the release started at approximately 4:35 p.m. I said that we were unloading a VCM railcar and the railcar somehow slipped past the cholks and moved down the tracks. The unloading hoses were ripped out of the railcar and VCM discharged through the open lines. He asked , if the railcar was ours, and I said that I wasn't sure. He asked for the railcar number and I said that I didn't know, but I could get the number for him. He asked if there were any injuries, and I said no. He asked what we did to stop the discharge, and I told him we closed the valves on the railcar approximately 30 minutes after the discharge started. He asked if we had contacted any other agencies, and I said that we would contact the State.
At 6:40 p.m. I called Jerry Banks at home (1-939-4474) and told him about the release. He asked how much we discharged and I said that we had visually estimated 4,000 lbs., but we were going to investigate the incident to get a more accurate number. He said ok.
At 6:43 p.m. I called the National Response Center back and told Petty Officer Bryan that the railcar number was UTLX 98233.
