Tamburro. W. Sherman will circulate the revised protocol to Committee members. 3.0 Update on the Huntingdon Developmental Study The Committee discussed the draft results from the developmental study and the possibility of submitting an 8(e) report on a decrease in the body weight gain. Although each individual company must make independent decisions related to TSCA 8(e) submissions, C. Norman provided legal counsel to the group regarding TSCA 8(e) compliance. His counsel was based in part on advice given by EPA's TSCA 8(e) SL 110965 CMA 2/17/98 PAGE 3/7 CMA VCHC Record of Conference Call -1/8/98 F*g2 compliance office. C. Penney and E. Beeler. W. Sherman reported that ATSDR had granted a request to extend the due date on the final developmental study through the end of January 1998. 4.0 Update on EPA's IRIS Pilot Project C- Norman provided the Committee with an update on EPA's IRIS Pilot Project for vinyl chloride. Data developed during the recent pilot project is currently being entered into the vinyl chloride IRIS database. 5.0 Schedule Next Meeting W. Sherman reminded the Committee that the next VCHC meeting is scheduled for February 10>h. W. Sherman will arrange a meeting location and then notify Committee members. Wendy K. The Committee proposed holding a joint meeting with the Vinyl Institute Health and Safety Committee next summer. 2.0 Update on the Vinyl Chloride Cohort Study with Applied Epidemiology/ Inc. K. Mundt briefed die Committee on the status of the study update. New York City has still not provided certificates. Base-line analysis will require separate review and publication. Depending on when remaining death certificates are received, K. Mundt proposed the following updated schedule for the baseline analysis: run analysis in 6 to 8 weeks; draft report in late winter/early spring; and final report in early summer '9$. A one-day j^pe for study reviewers was estimated at approximately $1,000 to $1,500 per reviewwfc Noting that the cost of publication was included in his contract, K. Mundt suggested the American Toumal of Epidemiology as a potential journal for publication of the study. 3.0 Update on the University of Louisville Brain Cancer Study W. Sherman will circulate a copy of the pre-QA/QC developmental study to the Committee for review in mid-October. E. Beeler will determine if an aliquot from the study canister tank can be kept pending completion of the study, and if there are any additional shipping/handling costs involved in returning the canister. The Committee discussed die September 22nd conference call with J. Swenberg. The group agreed to hold their next meeting in North Carolina in late January/early February. The group discussed assigning a study monitor for this project. W. Swenberg's adduct work in an updated EPA risk assessment for vinyl chloride. The group proposed asking D. Rietz to provide an update on and comparison of various vinyl chloride risk assessments models, including the need for additional work on metabolism to Incorporate adduct information. 6.0 Discussion of Comments on Inclusion of VC in Section U2(k) of the CAA The Committee reviewed the draft comments. Comments are due to EPA October 15*. Any additional information on uses of vinyl chloride and emissions from sources other than chemical plants should be sent directly to C. Norman. 7.0 Update on EPA's IRIS Pilot Project C. Park provided the Committee with an update on his participation as an external reviewer on EPA's IRIS Pilot Project for vinyl chloride. W. Sherman reported that EPA was currently incorporating reviewers' comments, and that the next phase of the project would include a review by an internal EPA committee. 8.0 Update da the EVCM Presentation at Vinyl Institute The Committee reviewed a one-page summary of VCHC activities developed by W. Sherman at the request of the Vinyl Institute. In addition, W. Sherman reported that the VI has asked that the VCHC make plans to present their finalized studies at appropriate industry and scientific forums. In an update on the July 9* meeting with EVCM at VI, W. Sherman noted that no draft study protocols have been received from EVCM for the proposed collaborative studies.
