INTRODUCTION On August 25, 2021, EPA inspectors Dean Maraldo, Joan Rogers, and Ted Flatebo, conducted a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) reconnaissance inspection in the City of Cahokia Heights and observed six chronic SSO locations to document whether they were discharging or had evidence of recent discharges. There had not been any rain within the last 24 hours before the observations. The last rainfall recorded at the St. Louis Downtown Airport (KCPS) in St. Clair County was 1.14" between August 23, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. and August 23, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. This trip report summarizes the inspection observations. INSPECTION ACTIVITY SUMMARY Location #1: Lauralee Drive and Violet Drive Lift Station EPA inspectors arrived at the Lauralee Drive and Violet Drive Lift Station at 10:34 A.M. This lift station is #22 in the Commonfields of Cahokia lift station list. The lift station was not overflowing. The lift station was not secured. An abandoned lift station wet well is located next to the current lift station. The top of that wet well was also not secured. Location #2: Lady of Snows Lift Station EPA inspectors arrived at the Lady of Snows Lift Station on Old Missouri Avenue at 10:43 A.M. This lift station is #20 in the Commonfields of Cahokia lift station list. The lift station was not overflowing, and the wet well was not secured. Location #3: Lift Station #5 EPA inspectors arrived at Lift Station #5 at 10:54 A.M. This lift station is a former Centreville lift station and is located at 4200 Missouri Avenue. The lift station was not overflowing, and EPA observed that work had been done to regrade and repair the lift station. Mr. Dennis Traiteur had previously told EPA inspectors that they had installed a submersible pump, but permanent repairs were still being planned. EPA observed that the fencing around the lift station was replaced, but it was not secured. While EPA was arriving at the lift station, City employees drove past the lift station, turned around in the motel parking lot and drove away. Location #4: North 63rd Street and Laura Avenue Lift Station EPA inspectors arrived at the intersection of North 63rd Street and Laura Avenue at 11:04 A.M. The lift station is #4 on the Commonfields of Cahokia lift station list. The City reported an SSO at North 63rd Street and Pittsburgh Drive on Friday, August 20, 2021. Mr. Rory Morgan opened the manhole downstream from the wet well and did not observe flow. He stated that the lift station repair had been made the day before, but it was not working on the day of the EPA inspection. EPA drove to the manhole at North 63rd Street and Pittsburgh Drive and observed water on the ground around the manhole at 11:18 A.M., but it was not surcharging. Location #5: Cleanout on North 82nd Street EPA inspectors arrived at the cleanout overflow location on North 82nd Street at 11:23 A.M. The cleanout was not discharging. Location #6: North 82nd Street and Belleview Avenue Lift Station EPA inspectors arrived at the lift station at North 82nd Street and Belleview Avenue at 11:24 A.M. This is lift station #10 on the Commonfields of Cahokia lift station list. The lift station was not overflowing. EPA inspectors then drove back to the intersection of North 63rd Street and Laura Avenue and informed Mr. Traiteur that we were leaving the city to drive home.
