SELF-INTRODUCTIONS AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was opened at 8:30 a.m. by the chair, Ron McCreedy, with' a round of self-introductions. There were no suggested amendments to the agenda which will be followed. The minutes of the last Technical Committee meeting held in Boston, MA on January 12, 1994, were approved as submitted. II. FINANCIAL REPORT The financial report was presented and discussed with a notation that it will finish well under budget level of $195,000 (Attach ment I) . PROJECT UPDATES Bob Strength, Consultant, reported on a number of his activities: The recent ASTM meeting in the Netherlands, the NAC National Electrical Code Meetings, and IEC '89. Reports of those meetings have been circulated separately to members of the Committee. Dave Eckstein reported on the status of the preparation of the package for EPA and also advised the group that the overall situation has been quiet with respect to the Kansas pipe situa tion. R. T. Gottesman will finalize that package for presenta tion to the EPA in August. i Don Goodman updated the group on the MRI report which is now complete. Final approval is expected by mid-July by ASME follow ing which it will be published and publicized. IV. NEW BUSINESS Dick Magee reported on his trip to Brussels to discuss the Umea (Swedish) program. He indicated that this activity is almost wound down but not in a manner totally satisfactory to him. He indicated that the environmental attacks are continuing in Europe. He also mentioned an ECVM report in which sources con tribute to dioxin which should be available to us shortly. Ron McCreedy then talked about the EcoBalance LCA which was due to start June 1 and be completed by December 1. A great deal of concern was expressed by the group, specifically,' John Svalander and Bill Carroll, about the contractor and the goals of this project. After further discussion, it was decided that we would not go forward with an EcoBalance contract. Don Goodman talked about the VOC alert. He feels this will be a potential problem in 1995. A report has just been completed on polyethylene at a cost of $120,000. He will coordinate with Pat Toner and the respective SPI Divisions, such as the Plastics Pipe Institute and the Vinyl Siding Institute. It was agreed that we would contact Lou Maresca of Geon for assistance in this area. There followed a special report by Lou Maresca concerning the dioxin effect on the endocrine system. It was agreed to distrib ute this report to the Technical Committee (Done). The Action Register has been essentially completed and will be reestablished at the next meeting.
