Our Chief Scientific Officer/Vice President of Research Dr. Zaher Nahle sat down recently with the Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders (NINDS) Dr. Walter Koroshetz on the nationally televised program the White House Chronicle with host Llewellyn King. In October, RME (The Swedish National Association for ME-patients) organized two open conferences aimed at engaging health care professionals in Stockholm (Oct. 18) and Malmd (Oct. 19). SMCI's Chief Scientific Officer and VP for Research Dr. Zaher Nahle was invited to attend a roundtable meeting to discuss ongoing research and clinical developments. The roundtable meeting, held October 17-18, was international in attendance and scope. It covered findings and planned research in Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Dr. Fane Mensah (University College London (UCL)) provided SMCI with a progress update on the Ramsay Award Program 20 1 < am 2 project. Our second cohort of Ramsay Award Program grants were announced in October. The Ramsay Award Program 2017 research teams are exploring diverse promising areas including immunity, metabolomics, epigenetics, and the gut microbiome - to name a few. On November 2, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) held a Stakeholder Engagement and Communication (SEC) Call, The purpose of the call was to share information and conduct outreach with the broader ME/CFS community. This call, "Take Home Messages from the 2015 Institute of Medicine Report on ME/CFS" included updates on CDC activity from Elizabeth Unger, PhD, MD; and perspectives from three Institute of Medicine Committee members, Lucinda Bateman, MD (Bateman Home Center); Ellen Clayton, MD, JD (Vanderbilt University); and Peter Rowe, MD (Johns Hopkins).
